VP Vance: We will manage flare-ups through diplomacy.

VP Vance is taking a more vocal center stage with regard to the Iranian deal and communicating details in regard to it.

There were reports that Secretary of State Rubio was not fully in favor of the deal, but Vance was. The president sided with Vance and is now letting him speak.

Cynics say that it is the President’s way of deflecting blame if the deal goes poorly.

VP Vance is currently on the wires saying:

  • 60 day period begins today
  • On Iran missiles, we do expect as part of final deal that Iran won’t have missiles that threaten the entire world
  • On nuclear, says they would have to get a lot of money to rebuild program
  • On Lebanon, says expects both sides to honor deal
  • We will have to manage flareups with Lebanon through diplomacy. Eventually want to see Lebanese government police southern Lebanon.
  • Final negotiations will set terms for the Strait of Hormuz after 60 days. We do plan to prove converse very soon on Iran.
  • On sanctions says we did not see that as a major concession in deal.
  • Says we’ll be able to see how Iran sends and receives money. Confident that we can temporarily lift sanctions without Congress.
  • Israelis have to respect the peace process.
  • Israel has the right to defend itself, but attacks on civilians in Beirut is not acceptable
