The spokesperson says that Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan are all continuing mediation efforts between the US and Iran in recent days. Adding that Tehran remains in contact with all three countries and that “discussions were continuing”.
That final point at least alludes to the notion that there is still hope for both sides to engage in nuclear/uranium negotiations again at some stage. For now at least, it doesn’t seem like talks are imminent. But hey, there is still that little bit of hope.
Oil prices have moved off earlier highs with WTI crude now up 3% to $73.37. Meanwhile, stocks are also paring losses a little with S&P 500 futures now down by just 0.3% on the day.
The dollar is a notable loser in starting European morning trade though with EUR/USD now moving up by 0.2% to 1.1440, from around 1.1400 earlier. Meanwhile, GBP/USD is also flat on the day at 1.3405 now from a low of 1.3370 before this.
USD/JPY remains more or less the same around 162.05 though, following the mix of GPIF headlines from earlier.
