US stock futures are generally flat today with S&P 500 futures down 0.1% just ahead of the open.

One of the winners so far is Meta, which is up 2% in the pre-market after Mark Zuckerberg announced Muse Glimmer, which is an open-weights model. In a long essay with the release, Zuckerberg wrote that the biggest question of our age isn’t whether AI is dangerous, but who gets to use it. They reject the “doom” narratives that suggest AI must be strictly controlled by a small set of experts to be safe. Instead, they believe superintelligence should be widely distributed to everyone to empower individuals, foster invention, and maintain a balance of power.

He envisioned a future of 24/7 personal agents who he says are secure, highly personalized AI agents that integrate with devices (like smart glasses) to help manage your health, relationships, career, and hobbies without compromising your private data. They will also allow people to produce videos, design hardware, lower barries to business creation, personalize education and be free or affordable.

I did find it compelling that it argues that a single, universally “aligned” or benevolent AI is impossible because humanity has diverse and competing values.

Laggards ahead of the open include Intel and Palantir.
