US-based employers announced 93,816 job cuts in May, down 12% from 105,441 cuts in April. That figure is also up 47% from the 63,816 job cuts announced in the same month last year. Challenger notes that “tariffs, funding cuts, consumer spending, and overall economic pessimism are putting intense pressure on companies’ workforces.”
