The headline number is soft but the revisions were higher and the advance reading for March was strong. That said, surely a big portion of the +0.6% reading in March was gasoline so we’re going to have to wait for the ex-gas number in next month’s report. All told, the Canadian consumer appeared to be in good shape ahead of the Iran war.
